What Is Life Like In Lake Claire

As you consider different Atlanta neighborhoods to live in, one area you shouldn’t forget about is Lake Claire.  What is it like in Lake Claire?  At first glance there appears to not be much going on in this neighborhood.  But that might be exactly why you should consider Lake Claire…to live in an area with less buzz/traffic while still featuring the unique charm that everyone wants a piece of in Atlanta.

 

 

I spent an afternoon walking around Lake Claire and while on the edges of Lake Claire, you’ll find the typical 1920’s style bungalows, there are certain streets that just scream character.  For example, along Lakeshore drive, I just love some of the unique homes that fill up the tree-lined streets.  Some of them seem like they came out of a fairy tail.  Then there is Claire Drive – it’s located on a steep hill which I think is always a unique, charming feature of a neighborhood.  I’m obsessed with these streets and it’s probably a good reason of why the intersection of these 2 streets is how Lake Claire got it’s name.

 

 

Besides tudor and bungalow homes, Lake Claire does offer a unique planned community, Sutherland Place which features craftsman-style homes, townhomes, and condos/lofts.  The single-family homes are best described as an executive home as they have very small lots and are built very close to neighboring homes.  The condos/lofts almost have the feel of a townhome because they expand on two levels (with the master suite located on the 2nd floor).  Prices vary depending on # beds/baths but as an example, a 2 bed/2 bath loft is around $350K while a 4 bed/4 bath townhome is around $600K.  The executive style craftsman homes are in the mid $600K-$700K range.

 

There are other townhome and condo options such as the Sutherland Corner townhomes, Views at Clifton, or Neoterra townhomes on Dekalb Ave.  They typically range in the high $400’s-low $500’s for a 3 bedroom/2.5 bath.  There’s also the swanky new modern townhomes called The Rooftops at Lake Claire located on Gordon Ave (currently priced in the mid $500’s).

 

 

 

What else is there in Lake Claire?  As I mentioned, there isn’t a ton in Lake Claire to walk to in terms of attractions.  But, it’s wedged in between Candler Park & the City of Decatur so it’s easy to get to other areas with restaurants (like Flying Biscuit in Candler Park or the numerous restaurants in Decatur).  There is an AWESOME new playground in Lake Claire that I can’t wait to take my own kid to.  Additionally, there is the Lake Claire swimming pool but it is private and there is a long waiting list (think 3+ years to get in).  Lake Claire is a neighborhood that is quiet, has a mix of young families and older residents, and is zoned to a great elementary school, Mary Lin (located in Candler Park).  You’ll find residents taking leisurely walks, moms & dads pushing strollers, and bikers/joggers strolling through the streets of Lake Claire.  Hopefully this gives you sense of what it is like in Lake Claire.
